Does Middle Tennessee Need Another Law School???

Belmont University is opening a new law school, the Nashville Business Journal reports.  Come on!!!! I am so sick of capitalist greedy schools worrying more about making money than the welfare of their alumnae.  But they are going to limit their student body to 350.  Geez, thanks!   I can't even talk about this.  ARGH! Belmont sucks ass.

Please call them or send them a letter and tell them what you think!!

  1. Do they need a professor? I'd love to have that job, especially if it pays six figures.

  2. Tennessee has law schools at the follwowing colleges and universities: U. of Tennessee, Memphis, Nashville, and Vanderbilt. I don't see how Belmont will ever be above a TTTT or TTT. And the job prospects will be very dim for the following reasons: (1) the first few classes will have graduated from a provisionally-accredited law school; (2) will there be any demand for Belmont law grads by big or medium-sized firms (or even small firms or govt agencies)?; and (3) there simply is not enough demand for an extra 130 or so lawyers in Tennessee every year to justify this scheme.

In the final analysis, this is simply another cash cow scam. Law schools do not require a huge investment by the school. From the law school's perspective, the worst case scenario is this: If the school never gets ABA accreditation, the university can simply close the law school in 5-10 years - after having made millions.

  3. The South is bonkers. North Carolina opened up two more law schools in the last 2 years. So, that's Duke, UNC, Wake, Campbell, NC Central, Charlotte.. and some other one. And the state has three major urban centers. It makes no sense at all. And it's happening all over the US. I pray for the day when I can buy a brick from the site of my former law school that closed after lack of interest. That would make me soooo happy.
