ReplyDeleteThe policy for sabbaticals should be that you're allowed to take time off without retribution (ie: your job will still be here when you get back); but it won't be paid leave. If you can get a grant to fund your research, great, let an outside source pay you. Or, if you research during your sabbatical brings in gobs of money to the school, you might be entitled to a bonus, or back pay. But, if you're going to take a year off from working, do what pretty much everyone else in the world has to do, save up enough to live on.
