April Fool! A Tom Cooley Fool....

I totally almost fell for this comment on my last post!  Nice try!  Right?  Wait, is this a joke?

I have been reading this blog for quite sometime, and frankly, I think it is full of lies. Here is my story:
I scored low on the LSAT(142,) and only had a 2.4 from the University of Kansas. Cooley was the only school to accept me, and thus offered me a spot in their AAMPLE program. If I pass, I am admitted into their school!! Although the AAMPLE program is costly, I believe it is well worth it. Cooley sees through the numbers, and realizes that the LSAT is racially biased. They know that LSAT and GPA are in no way good predictors of law school success.

I have learned a lot about Cooley through their website, which is the only source of information one should use when choosing a law school due to the fact that the law school knows itself better then anyone else.

If Cooley is so horrible, why would the ABA accredit them? Furthermore, if it is so bad, why are they ranked 2nd in another objective but more obscure set of rankings?

My goal is to be a lawyer, and Cooley will give me the skills I need to be successful. At the end of the day, law school is law school, and a degree is a degree. No one cares where you went. As long as you pass the bar, you will be in demand. This blog is full of lies. I am going to be a lawyer; naisayers be damned! Cooley has a superb reputation in the state of Michigan, and once I graduate, it should be quite easy to find a job

Also, in the event this nut is real--she could stand to benefit from accurate statistics.  Senator Boxer has caught a whiff of the shit that the law schools put out as their statistics.  She is upset.  If you give a shit about the future lemmings of our industry, send her an email or give her a call and let her know that we're behind her in her efforts to make ABA president Zack require that law schools provide accurate post-graduate employment and starting salary statistics.

Her recent comment takes the cake!

I am the one responsible for the post that this jerk used as "April Fools." It is 100 percent true. I am going to Cooley, and I will be successful. Cooley is the largest law school in the country for a reason! Because it is one of the best.

The LSAT is a racially biased test, and just because someone struggled in undergrad does not mean they will struggle in law school. Law school is much different than undergrad, and many legal minded people have a lot of trouble with the variety of subjects taught in undergrad(myself included).

You guys are jealous of me, because I have the drive, and talent to be accepted to one of the best law schools in the US. I wrote a really great personal statement, which obviously showed them the potential I have for the legal field. Cooley grads hire Cooley grads, and since it is the largest school in the country, there are thousands of big firm partners around the country and the world from Cooley.

You've got me in stitches!  Good joke!  Hope you all had a happy April Fool's Day!

  1. Just in case this person is real
    Three things:

The LSAT and GPA are actually very good predictors of law school success. They are mediocre predictors of success as an attorney, but then so is every other statistic.

I believe that it is spelled "naysayers".

When you are waiitng on me at Laurelwood Brewing Co. in a couple of years, I prefer the Boss IPA. A little extra hops and alcohol take the edge off after a difficult day in court (and I have had many).

  2. That comment is a total troll.

  3. I think the could be real. Once you're in the law, you think everyone HAS to know the difference between Florida and Iowa, in terms of rankings. But the truth is, no one outside the law can even tell the difference between Florida and Cooley. They know a few name brand schools and assume any other school is sort of ok because, "You're a lawyer, right?"

It's funny. Non-lawyers are sort of right, in that if you didn't go to one of a handful of schools, no one really cares what your school was ranked. But they're so far off from the ranking system that all lawyers have internalized to handle the fact that only a few schools matter, that to lawyers, anyone who doesn't care about rankings seem hilarious and out of touch.

  4. I like the video. This is such a great site! I like the way you set this up! Great content and images as well! Thanks for sharing this!...Daniel

  5. I am currently a student at Cooley. Although the comment may have been made by a troll, let me say that in my first semester I have met many with the same attitudes. Week 13 and someone posts to the online board and asks the Prof what battery was, as he did not have it in his notes. Really? Then there are the daily questions about how someone can get into International Law? Honestly? From Cooley? Most of my class is from out of state, New York being the predominant state represented, and they plan on going home to work. Yeah. Good luck with that. Most of the kids I go to school with would have a difficult time getting hired at Wal Mart, during the Christmas rush...but they sure are fun to watch...

  6. Has to be a troll.

Cooley has the worst reputation in the State of Michigan.

  7. Angel,

This moron posted the same thing on my blog, in my most recent entry.

Look at how the spammers and defenders started posting on this board:

This was a single entry, from a former gut-honest Cooley student. I would not be surprised if the school hired people to lurk internet boards.

  9. "Cooley has the worst reputation in the State of Michigan."

Correction: I'd say that it has the worst reputation of any ABA-accredited law school in the country. The school plays off students' hopes and dreams, but fails to tell them that their shot of making it, even in a marginal capacity, is basically nil. Are there people from Cooley who have "made" it? Perhaps as solos. There might be some partners at big firm here and there, but I suspect the number of them could be counted on a few hands from coast to coast. So yes, while it is true that you "could" conceivably beat the odds and land a big firm job, the undisputed probablility is that you WILL NOT make it as a graduate of Cooley. I hate to be harsh. Hey - I even applied to Cooley - thank god I got in somewhere better - but to go there is a death wish, paprticularly in this day and age where jobs are very scarce. Even in the good 'ole legal market days, e.g., late 90s early '00's (prior to 9/11), coming out of Cooley was mark of distinction - and I don't mean that in a good way either. The person that posted the above message re: Cooley is a complete idiot.

  10. Oh - I get it, April Fool's Day. I totally forgot ... At least I hope it's a joke. One thing I for certain - Cooley is a joke.

  11. Imagine being a Cooley student right now- halfway or more into $150K of life destruction. I think we're at the point where HIV infection would be less damaging on one's future prospects than a Cooley law degree. This person has to try and rationalize their decision as best they can or they'll lose their mind.

  12. A least a person with HIV has a decent chance of survival. :P
11:43, idiots... hence the tribute. I thought it appropriate.

  15. Doc review is doc review. Whether you went to Cooley, Florida, or some other non-top-three law school.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Yes, it's obviously a joke, but I would so love this to have been said in anger: "Cooley grads hire Cooley grads . . . ."

There are just so many possibilities for finishing that thought.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Yeah -- me too. This is a joke! If not, the person @2:57 is one of the biggest idiots I have come across in a LONG MF'ing time - and to the extent he/she really believes these statements, then he/she actually deserves to go to Cooley . . . and suffer a long, slow, painful existence of indentured servitude in the process. Don't drink the MF'in' Cooley Kool-Aid - ya hear me lemmings?

  18. A troll. This comment is the give-away

"I have learned a lot about Cooley through their website, which is the only source of information one should use when choosing a law school due to the fact that the law school knows itself better then anyone else."

Poster's injecting race into the gag spoils it for me.

    ReplyDelete
  19. So you don't think it's a creative joke? You think Cooley paid this person to post this? Bizarro land..... The race thing is weird. Is that to attract minority applicants?

    ReplyDelete
  20. This poster is just an epic troll. Doing a pretty fine job of it too.

    ReplyDelete
  21. If you went to Cooley, you would know while this particular poster may be a troll...this is the prevailing attitude...up until the second year. Then the truth hits them, they say fuck it...all in kind of thing, and ride it til it bucks them. IBR for 25 years and have the loans discharged, easy stuff. Work under the table....or shit law...just have another source of income, and don't get married. Easy stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Obviously a troll... Cooley doesn't even accept personal statements.

  23. I'm sorry but did you really say that there are THOUSANDS of big firm Cooley lawyers all over the world? Did you really say that? I'd like to see your references for same. Listen, with a very tight legal job market we don't need to be giving people a chance. This is not analogous to a truck driving academy, or is it? You give people a chance when vacancies exist not extreme surpluses. Sell it to someone else. I think it is grossly irresponsible of Cooley to have 5 campuses. In my opinion, and it does not appear that I am alone, we don't need a Cooley Law School. Give people a chance is for trade schools not professional schools. Give me a break!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I find it humorous that Cooley students and grads say that rankings don't matter when their own law school wrote a silly book that ranks itself ahead of almost all other law schools. You should see some of the data that they use - number of seats in it library... Yes, you read that correctly. I propose that we open up a law school at the Pontiac Silverdome. THE PONTIAC SILVERDOME LAW SCHOOL. That has plenty of seats in it to get a high ranking by Cooley. It is also spacious, and I believe that is another indicator. I'm not making it up! It is data just like this that Cooley uses to rank itself ahead of most law schools in this country. Sad, pathetic, IRRESPONSIBLE! Come on ABA!!!!!

  25. Every attorney in the entire U S of A knows that Cooley is for retards.
